DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 61 (Water) Soil Aquifer Treatment (SAT) system is considered a cheap and effective method of treating wastewater as it passes through the aquifer materials using infiltration basins and injection wells. The use of Polynuclear Arom. Hydrocarbon (PAH) as a human health pollution indicator in groundwater was applied in such systems by many researchers. The present study aims to study the groundwater contamination with selected Polynuclear Arom. Hydrocarbon compds. in an aquifer that was recharged with tertiary treated wastewater at Sulaibiya area, Kuwait. Influent (tertiary treated wastewater) and groundwater samples were collected from three wells (two observation wells and one prodn. well), and analyzed for 13 selected PAH compds. The removal rates for PAH compds. by aquifer materials can be classified into three groups as follow; no removal (0%), 10-30% removal and 45-84% removal for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd group, resp. The 1st group includes Benzo(a)pyrene, Indeno(1,2,3,-cd)pyrene, Dibenzo(a,h)anthracene and Benzo(g,h,i)perylene compds. The 2nd group includes Fluorene, Phenanthrene and Anthracene compds. The 3rd group includes Fluoranthene, Pyrene, Benzo(a)anthracene, Chrysene, Benzo(b)fluoranthene and Benzo(k)fluor compds. Results are compared with EPA health and drinking stds.

Chrysenequinone imine and monooxime reacted with dinitrobenzyl and phenacyl halides to give the oxazoles V (R3 = C6H4NO2-2, C6H4NO2-4, Bz, COC6H4Br-4).
