- Effects of six fasciolicides against Fascioloides magna in white-tailed deer
- Effects of six fasciolicides against Fascioloides magna in white-tailed deer. Foreyt, William J.; Todd, A. C. (Dep. Vet. Sci., Univ. Wisconsin, Madison, Wis., USA). J. Wildl. Dis., 12(3), 361-6 (English) 1976. CODEN: JWIDAW. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Thirty-three white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) of various ages, both sexes, and in good phys. condition were captured for anthelmintic evaluation of six compds. against the large American liver fluke, F. magna. Based on fluke mortality, hexachlorophene (I) [70-30-4] administered at the rate of 12 to 26 mg/kg was lethal to 5 of 10 mature flukes in seven deer. Nitroxynil [1689-89-0] at 11 to 24 mg/kg inhibited egg production, but did not kill mature flukes in eight deer. Rafoxanide [22662-39-1]at 12 to 25 mg/kg killed 6 of 8 (75%) immature flukes in eight deer, but was not effective against 17 mature flukes. Clioxanide [14437-41-3] at 16 to 38 mg/kg, diamphenethide [36141-82-9] at 255 to 280 mg/kg, and hexachloroethane [67-72-1] at 463 to 629 mg/kg were not effective against F. magna in four, two and four deer, resp. There was no indication that treatment with fasciolicides at the higher dose rates was more efficacious than at the lower dose rates. Detection of fluke eggs in the feces was a reliable method for diagnosing the presence of mature F. magna in deer prior to treatment, but was not reliable for measuring fasciolicidal activity of all compds. tested.

- Degradation and residue dynamics of the anthelmithic 131I-rafoxanide in blood, milk, meat and fat following different dosages on cattle. Dedek, Wolfgang; Schwarz, Heinz; Liebaug, Egon (Bezirksinst. Veterinaerwes., DAW, Karl-Marx-Stadt, E. Ger.). Arch. Exp. Veterinaermed., 31(3), 365-8 (German) 1977. CODEN: AXVMAW. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) 131I-labeled rafoxanide (I) [22662-39-1] (2.4 and 12 mg/kg) given orally to cattle had serum half-life values of 5.0-5.5 and 10.5 days, resp. The half-time value for a therapeutically effective dose of 5 mg/kg was 7 days. The max. amt. of residue in milk 1 week after application of 5 mg/kg was 0.5 ppm and the half-life value was 4-5 days. Following a dose of 2.4 mg I/kg, max. amts. of residues of 0.35 ppm were found in meat after 6-9 days. After 50 days, 0.005 ppm of residues were found in fat.
