Thus, Et 3-amino-4,4,4-trifluorobut-2-enoate and 2,3-dichlorobenzyl isocyanate (prepn. given) were stirred in DMF at -10° to 80° to give 3-(2,3-dichlorobenzyl)-2,4-dioxo-1H-6-trifluoromethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro pyridine. This was stirred with K2CO3 and 2,4-dinitophenoxyamine in EtOAc at 60° to give 3-(2,3-dichlorobenzyl)-2,4-dioxo-1-amino-6-trifluoromethyl-1,2,3,4-tetra hydropyridine. The latter at 0.0156 kg/ha postemergent was said to give very good herbicidal activity against Abutilon theophrasti, Amaranthus retroflexus, etc. .
