The blood levels of the compd. peaked 2-4 h after drug administration. In the highest dose used (50 mg/kg), mean concns. of 3.5, 2.9, and 4.5 mg/mL were obtained for chickens, turkeys, and swine, resp. In poultry, the amts. declined to undetectable levels 12-24 h after administration. In swine, at 24 h after administration, measurable values could still be detected.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Section cross-reference(s): 3 Tiamulin [55297-95-5] exhibited in vitro min. inhibitory concns. against Leptospira isolates in the range 0.07-2.5 mg/mL, indicating that the activity of this antibiotic was more or less comparable to those of tetracycline-HCl [64-75-5], dihydrostreptomycin sulfate [5490-27-7], and tylosin tartrate [1405-54-5]. When orally administered to Leptospira-infected hamsters for 3 days, tiamulin was 3-8-fold more effective than tetracycline.
