DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Optical properties of polyethylene (I) [9002-88-4] including color, brightness, opacity, and transmission can be modified by addn. of different types of TiO2 and bluing agents. Thus, Kronos CL200 (rutile manufd. by the chloride process) gave I films with higher brightness and lower yellowness than Kronos RN57P (rutile manufd. by the sulfate process). Addn. of bluing agents such as Ultramarine Blue S 2787 [57455-37-5], PV Fast Violet BL [6358-30-1], carbon black, and fine Al powder suppressed the yellowness and increased the opacity, but also decreased the brightness of TiO2-filled I. Addn. of an optical brightener instead of or with the bluing agent increased the brightness of the sample. Similar results were obtained in bluing of TiO2-filled PVC [9002-86-2].
