I (BDCJT) as doped red-emitting electroluminescent material. For example, (2-methyl-1-benzopyran-4-ylidene)propanedinitrile (prepn. given) was reacted with 2,3,6,7-tetrahydro-1,1,7,7-tetramethyl-1H,5H-benzo[i,j]quinolizine-9-car boxaldehyde (prepn. given) in acetonitrile in the presence of piperidine to give BDCJT with 97.87% purity. The electroluminescent device doped with BDCJT emitted high pure red light with luminescent peak at 678 nm. The process has the advantages of simplified workups, high yield, and low cost. .
