- Growth of loblolly pine treated with hexazinone, sulfometuron methyl, and metsulfuron methyl for herbaceous weed control
- Growth of loblolly pine treated with hexazinone, sulfometuron methyl, and metsulfuron methyl for herbaceous weed control. Michael, J. L. (Southern For. Exp. Stn., Auburn Univ., Auburn, AL 36849, USA). South. J. Appl. For., 9(1), 20-6 (English) 1985. CODEN: SJAFD9. ISSN: 0148-4419. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Aerial application of 0.25 lb active ingredient per acre of Oust (sulfometuron Me, formerly DPX-5648 [74222-97-2]) or 2.0 lb of Velpar L (hexazinone) [51235-04-2] postemergent in May 1982 resulted in good weed control. Weeds controlled on the silty clay coastal plain soil included pokeweed (Phytolacca americana), ragweed (Ambrosia), goldenrod (Solidago), and evening primrose (Oenothera). Growth of 1-yr-old loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) seedlings released with sulfometuron Me [79510-48-8] or hexazinone was improved in comparison to untreated seedlings. No significant pine mortality was assocd. with either treatment. On similar sites where blackberry (Rubus), honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica), and herbaceous weeds are the major problem, application of sulfometuron Me from pre-emergence to the postemergent stage (when weeds are £12-18 in. in height) is recommended. Hexazinone is recommended as a postemergent treatment for herbaceous weed control. Treatment with metsulfuron methyl (formerly DPX-T6376-21) [74223-64-6] did not result in any growth responses greater than untreated seedlings. Impacts of deer browsing on seedlings resulted in a slight height redn. the 1st and 2nd growing seasons following planting, but by the end of the 3rd growing season browsed seedlings had made up the difference. No diam. differences were assocd. with deer browsing at any time during the study.
- Response of two Geranium species, wheat and oilseed rape to various herbicides applied post-emergence
- Response of two Geranium species, wheat and oilseed rape to various herbicides applied post-emergence. Richardson, W. G.; West, T. M.; Flint, C. E. (Weed Res. Organ., AFRC, Yarnton/Oxford OX5 1PF, UK). Tests Agrochem. Cultiv., 6, 148-9 (English) 1985. CODEN: TACUDC. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Section cross-reference(s): 4 Bentazone [25057-89-0] (0.75-1.5 kg/ha), methabenzthiazuron [18691-97-9] (1.5-3 kg/ha) and 1.0 kg/ha of pyridate [55512-33-9] killed G. molle and G. dissectum. Lethal effects were found on G. molle with MT-124 [104492-33-3] at 0.5 kg/ha and cyanazine [21725-46-2] at 0.75 kg/ha, the latter giving 99% redn. of G. dissectum. Other herbicides giving good control of both species (>70% redn.) were metsulfuron-methyl [74223-64-6], chlorsulfuron [64902-72-3], fluroxypyr [69377-81-7], AC 222293 [81405-85-8], mecoprop [7085-19-0], ioxynil [1689-83-4], metoxuron [19937-59-8] and chlorotoluron [15545-48-9]. Usually both Geranium spp. responded to a similar degree, although G. molle tended to be marginally more sensitive. However G. dissectum was more sensitive to ioxynil than G. molle. Wheat tolerated the majority of herbicides but some damage was found with MT-124, pyridate at 1.0 kg/ha, mecoprop, cyanazine and methabenzthiazuron at 3.0 kg/ha. Oilseed rape tolerated propyzamide [23950-58-5] and benazolin-clopyralid mixt. [59215-59-7] but was damaged by pyridate and cyanazine.
