Thus, 100 parts bisphenol A polycarbonate [24936-68-3] was mixed with 1 part Na2SO3 [7757-83-7], Na2S2O3 [7772-98-7], Na2S2O4 [7775-14-6], or Na2S2O5 [7681-57-4] and the compn. was pelletized by extruding at 287.degree.. The pellets were molded into test pieces which when tested according to Underwriters Laboratories test no. 94 had a V-II classification (av. extinguishing time .ltoreq.25 s and max burn time after removal of the flame 30 sec). The transparency and Izod impact strength of the polymers were not reduced significantly by addn. of the fireproofing agents.Except for chemicals metioned above, 16731-55-8 and 7772-98-7 are also used. .
