DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 62 (Essential Oils and Cosmetics) Transparent fragrance-emitting articles are prepd. by blending a thermoplastic polyamide resin with a plasticizer system comprising a sulfonamide and a gellant which have been titrated to clarity with a solvent for both the gellant and sulfonamide, adding a fragrance to the blend while at a temp. <120°, and then rotational or shell molding to form the fragrance-emitting articles. The polyamide is prepd. from R(CO2H)x (R:C20-44 hydrocarbon group; x = 32) and a polyamine and has an av. mol. wt. 5000-15,000. These fragrance-emitting articles are stable during storage and use and do not suffer from syneresis, tackiness, softening or loss of shape. Thus, an article contg. polyamide resin (e.g. Unirez 2931) 59.997, light mineral oil 8. 8047-99-2 and 96353-70-7 which are cas registry numbers of chemicals are mentioned.800, Santicizer 8 (N-ethyl-o,p-toluenesulfonamide) 4.600, Igepal CO210 (Nonoxynol 2) 11.600, fragrance oil 15.000, and colorants 0.003 parts was prepd. by blending the resin and plasticizer/solvent system together in a sigma blade mixer at 140-150°, cooling to 120°, adding the fragrance oil warmed to 80-100°, and mixing until homogeneous. The mixt. was maintained at 110-120° for ~1 h and cast into molds. After cooling, the molded articles were hard and tack-free with both good fragrance diffusion and stability. The articles retained these properties (both wrapped and unwrapped) even after being subjected to accelerated aging including high humidity exposure (90% RH/100°F) for 1 mo. .
