- Oil content, fatty acids and unsaponifiable lipids of lupine seed. Hudson, Bertram J. F.; Fleetwood, John G.; Lewis, Joseph I. (Dep. Food Sci., Univ. Reading, Reading RG1 5AQ, UK). J. Plant Foods, 5(1), 15-21 (English) 1983. CODEN: JPFOD4. ISSN: 0142-968X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) Mature seeds of 4 Lupinus species, L. albus, L. angustifolius, L. luteus, and L. mutabilis, have been shown to be possible sources of edible oil. The most promising are L. mutabilis and L. albus, in which cultivars have been identified contg. £21 and 13%, resp., of oil in whole seed. Three of the species contain significant quantities of 11 fatty acids, , , , , , , , , , and , but , , and are absent from L. mutabilis. From their component fatty acid profiles, it is possible to distinguish clearly between oils from the 4 species. Of the unsaponifiable components, the sterols comprise b-sitosterol [83-46-5], campesterol [474-62-4], stigmasterol [83-48-7], and cholesterol [57-88-5]. Though 4-Me sterols cannot be detected, triterpene alcs. are dominated by lupeol [545-47-1], b-amyrin [559-70-6] being the only other significant component in this class. L. luteus Seed oil contains primarily g- [7616-22-0], but also a- [59-02-9], and d- [119-13-1] tocopherols.

- Evaluation of by-products of the passion fruit juice industry: fatty acid and sterol composition of the seed oil. Gaydou, E. M.; Ramanoelina, A. R. P. (Lab. Phytochim., Univ. Droit, Marseille 13397/13, Fr.). Fruits, 38(10), 699-703 (French) 1983. CODEN: FRUIAS. ISSN: 0016-2299. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) The fatty acid compn. is tabulated for passion fruit (Passiflora edulis, P. edulis flaircarpa, and P. foetida) seed oil. Unsatd. fatty acids predominate, with linoleic acid [60-33-3] the most abundant (57.2-64.4%). The sterol compn. is tabulated for P. edulis and P. foetida. b-Sitosterol [83-46-5] was the most abundant (48.8%), followed by stigmasterol [83-48-7] (18.3-28.6%).Except for chemicals metioned above, 60-33-3 and 83-46-5 are also used. The oil is considered edible. .
