A silicon hydride-terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane) was treated with allyloxytrimethylsilane [18146-00-4] and further with a divinyltetramethyldisiloxane-Pt complex to give a trimethylsiloxypropyl-terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane) which was hydrolyzed to give a hydroxypropyl-terminated siloxane. This was treated with 2-isocyanotoethyl methacrylate [30674-80-7] to give a 3-[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethylcarbamoyloxy]propyl-terminated poly(di-Me siloxane). This product (38 parts) was then treated with Me methacrylate 47 parts, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate 10 parts, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate 5 parts and 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-phenyl-1-propanone photoinitiator 0.5 parts. Optically clear colorless contact lenses were prepd. from a cured copolymer rod of this product.
