CME 134, a new chitin synthesis inhibiting insecticide. Becher, H. M.; Becker, P.; Prokic-Immel, R.; Wirtz, W. (CELAMERCK G.m.b.H und Co. K.-G., Ingelheim am Rhein, Fed. Rep. Ger.). Int. Congr. Plant Prot., Proc. Conf., 10th, Volume 1, 408-15. Br. Crop Prot. Counc.: Croydon, UK. (English) 1983. CODEN: 52UAA9. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) CME 134 (I) [83121-18-0] is effective against cotton leafworm larvae (Prodenia litura), diamond-back moth (Plutella maculipennis), and Mexican bean beetle (Epilachna varivestis). Insecticidal activity of I against insects on corn, apple, grape, pear, potato, and in forestry, is reported.

Selective effects of a chitin synthesis inhibiting insecticide (CME 134-01) on the parasite Encarsia formosa and its white fly host Trialeurodes vaporariorum. Oomen, P. A.; Wiegers, G. L. (Plant Prot. Serv., Wageningen, Neth.). Meded. Fac. Landbouwwet., Rijksuniv. Gent, 49(3a), 745-50 (English) 1984. CODEN: MFLRA3. ISSN: 0368-9697. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) The side effect of CME 134-01 [83121-18-0] on the white fly (T. vaporariorum) parasite Encarsia formosa was assessed by lab. tests on adults and pupae of the parasite as well as on unparasitized 1st instar larvae and parasitized 3rd-4th instar larvae of the white fly. Adults and pupae of the parasite were not affected by CME 134-01. First instar larvae of white fly were killed. The insecticide considerably reduced the parasitization in newly parasitized white fly larvae by selectively killing the parasite larvae inside the surviving hosts. Considering all effects combined, the insecticide must be considered as harmless to the parasite. The initial toxicity test as developed and standardized by the IOBC/WPRS Working Group "Pesticides an Beneficial Arthropods" would be most appropriate when applied to the stage of the beneficial that is likely to be most sensitive to the pesticide.
