DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Incorporation of [3H]UTP into RNA, and protein and RNA contents in the nuclei from liver were measured in rats given Ponceau 3R [3564-09-8], Amaranth [915-67-3], or Sunset Yellow FCF [2783-94-0] (300 mg/kg). The RNA incorporation of UTP was greater in nuclei from both Ponceau 3R- and Amaranth-treated rats than in controls. Furthermore, 2 doses of Ponceau 3R increased the RNA contents in liver nuclei. No significant difference was obsd. in the protein content of nuclei isolated from rats treated with these azo dyes or controls. Nuclear prep. from Sunset Yellow FCF-treated rats showed no difference from controls. Thus, Ponceau 3R and Amaranth stimulate in vivo RNA synthesis in rat liver nuclei. .
