N,N'-di-tert-butylethylenediamine (I) [4062-60-6] 1.1, BuNMe2 [927-62-8] 44, Bu2NH [111-92-2] 9.4, Cu2O 0.85, and HBr 6.9 mol % was fed to a tank reactor stirred at 400 rpm, maintained at 30°/1 atm, and supplied with 1.7 m3 O/h (residence time 33 min), centrifuged to remove H2O, mixed with I 1.0, Cu2O 0.25, and HBr 2.7 mol %, and fed along with 42.5 dm3 O/h to a cyclindrical, 10-zone reactor at 40 ± 3° (residence time 20 min) to give polyoxyphenylene [24938-67-8] with intrinsic viscosity 0.58 dL/g (CHCl3, 25°).
