The present invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising compounds of formula (I) and process for preparing them, and their use for the treatment of viral diseases and particularly HIV mediated diseases.

The present invention further discloses uses of the compounds or pharmaceutical compositions in drug preparation, wherein the drug is used for treatment of respiratory diseases, particularly chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

A series of 2-piperazinyl-5-alkoxypyridines were synthesized and screened against human GPR119 receptor. Through SAR analysis, compounds containing 2-alkylsulfonylpiperazinyl-5-alkoxypyridines were discovered and found to be potent agonists of the human GPR119 receptor.
