General Description

1-(4-Methylphenyl)-3-phenylprop-2-en-1-one, also known as 4-Methyl-4'-hydroxychalcone, is a chemical compound with a molecular formula C16H14O. It is a yellow crystalline solid that is commonly used as an intermediate for the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals and organic chemicals. 1-(4-METHYLPHENYL)-3-PHENYLPROP-2-EN-1-ONE has been found to exhibit various pharmacological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties. It has also been studied for its potential to be used in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Palladium-Catalyzed Synthesis of α-Methyl Ketones from Allylic Alcohols and Methanol

One-pot synthesis of α-methyl ketones starting from 1,3-diaryl propenols or 1-aryl propenols and methanol as a C1 source is demonstrated. This one-pot isomerization-methylation is catalyzed by commercially available Pd(OAc)2 with H2O as the only by-product. Mechanistic studies and deuterium labelling experiments indicate the involvement of isomerization of allyl alcohol followed by methylation through a hydrogen-borrowing pathway in these isomerization-methylation reactions.

Activated charcoal-mediated synthesis of chalcones catalyzed by NaOH in water

A variety of chalcones were synthesized in good yields by the activated charcoal-mediated aldol reactions between benzaldehydes and acetophenones catalyzed by NaOH in water. 2,6-Bis((E)-benzylidene)cyclohexan-1-ones were prepared by the aldol reactions between benzaldehydes and cyclohexanone. Activated charcoal could be recycled five times without the significant decrease of yields.
