The synthesis of 2,2,2-tribromo-1-arylethanes by the alkylation of tribromomethyl anion with the corresponding arylbromomethanes is described.Conditions were determined for the transformation of the tribromides into 2,2-dibromo-1-arylethenes and bromo(aryl)ethynes.
