80-49-9 Usage

Description

Homatropine Methyl Bromide, also known as Methylhomatropine Bromide, is a quaternary ammonium salt of methylhomatropine. It is a peripherally acting anticholinergic medication that inhibits muscarinic acetylcholine receptors and the parasympathetic nervous system. Homatropine Methyl Bromide does not cross the blood-brain barrier and is used in combination with papaverine as a component of mild drugs that help "flush" the bile.
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Homatropine Methyl Bromide is used as an anticholinergic agent for inhibiting muscarinic acetylcholine receptors and the parasympathetic nervous system. It is particularly useful in combination with papaverine to help "flush" the bile, making it a valuable component in the development of mild drugs for bile management.

Clinical Use

Homatropine methylbromide is transported poorly acrossthe blood-brain barrier because of its quaternary ammoniumgroup and, therefore, has far fewer stimulant properties thanatropine. It does have all the characteristic peripheralparasympathetic depressant properties of atropine and isused to reduce oversecretion and to relieve GI spasms.
