SYNTHESIS OF 5,11-DIHYDRO-5-OXOPYRIDOPYRIMIDO-BENZIMIDAZOLES AS POTENTIAL ANTITUMOR AGENTS
The copper-catalyzed reaction between 2-chloropyridine-3-carboxylic acid and 1-alkyl-2-aminobenzimidazoles afforded the 11-alkyl-5,11-dihydro-5-oxopyridopyrimidobenzimidazoles 5b-d which are isosters of 6H-pyridocarbazoles, some of which are used as antitumor agents.The quaternized salts 7 of 5b-d have also been prepared, because they are strictly related to 9-hydroxy-2-methylellipticinium acetate, 6.
