Enantioselective synthesis of diaryl aziridines using tetrahydrothiophene- based chiral sulfides as organocatalysts
This work describes catalytic and asymmetric aziridinations (15 examples, 95-98% ee) of benzyl bromide and imines via the imino Corey-Chaykovsky reaction using (thiolan-2-yl)diarylmethanol benzyl ether as an organocatalyst. The catalyst and analogues thereof were prepared through an expeditious and efficient synthetic route featuring a double nucleophilic substitution and Shi epoxidation as key steps.

Quinoline derivatives and organic electroluminescent devices
Quinoline derivatives represented by formula (1) wherein two or more of substituents R1 to R7 are each a group of formula (2). It is preferable that among the substituents R1 to R7, at least one of the substituents other than those of general formula (2) be an electron-whithdrawing group. In general formula (2), Q is a carbo- or hetero-aryl group; at least one of the substituents RQ on the group Q is preferably an electron-donating group; and the number (n) of double bonds is preferably 1 to 3. Use of such derivatives in an organic EL device provided with a layer of an organic compound and two electrodes sandwiching the layer as the organic compound gives devices emitting yellow to red light with high brightness and high efficiency. Further, doping a hole transport layer with such derivatives realizes organic EL devices capable of emitting lights of resultant colors (e. g., white) composed of lights from light-emitting and hole transport layers.

Selective asymmetric hydrogenation of dehydroamino acid derivatives using rhodium and iridium diphosphinite carbohydrate catalyst compositions
A process and catalyst composition are provided for the highly efficient enantioselective hydrogenation of dehydroamino acid derivatives. The catalyst composition comprises rhodium or iridium and a diphosphinite carbohydrate ligand, wherein the phosphorous atoms are attached to aromatic groups substituted with electron-donating substituents. Also provided is a means to selectively produce α amino acids in either the L or the D form, based upon use of a sugar in the ligand with phosphinites attached in an absolute Right-Left or Left-Right configuration, respectively.
