(1-chlorobutylideneamino) N,N-dimethylcarbamate is used as a carbamate pesticide and insecticide for controlling various insect pests. It works by inhibiting the activity of acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme responsible for breaking down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, leading to the accumulation of acetylcholine in the synaptic cleft and causing overstimulation of the nervous system in insects, ultimately resulting in paralysis and death.
However, due to its toxicity and potential harmful effects on non-target organisms, the use of (1-chlorobutylideneamino) N,N-dimethylcarbamate has been restricted in many countries.
