It is an object of the present invention to provide a polymerizable compound having a good liquid crystal property, a good alignment property, sufficient solubility in solvents, high preservation stability in a solution state, and high optical stability; a composition including the polymerizable compound; a polymer produced by polymerizing the polymerizable compound, such as a resin produced using the polymerizable compound; an optically anisotropic body including the polymer; and a liquid crystal display element and an organic EL device that include the optically anisotropic body. As a result of conducting intensive studies in order to achieve the above object, the compound represented by General Formula (I) is developed.

This invention provides a chemical compound represented by the following general formula (1): Wherein X represents an alkyl group having a number of carbon atoms of 2 to 20, a cyclic alkyl group having a number of carbon atoms of 3 to 20 or an aromatic hydrocarbon group having a number of carbon atoms of 6 to 20, which aromatic hydrocarbon group may or may not be substituted; E1 and E2 each independently represents a bonding group or a single bond; A1 and A2 each represents a divalent aromatic hydrocarbon group which may or may not be substituted; B1, B2, B3 and B4 each independently represents a bonding group or a single bond; F1 and F2 each independently represents an alkanediyl group having a number of earbon atoms of 1 to 12 which is substituted or unsubstitute, and one or more than one of the methylene group constituting the alkanediyl group may be substituted with an oxgen atom; and P1 and P2 each independently represents a hydrogen atom or polymeric group.

A process for preparation of cycloalkanedicarboxylic acid monoesters which is characterized by comprising: a first step of protecting two carboxyl groups (-COOH) of a compound represented by formula (1-A) with a group represented by Z to obtain a compound represented by formula (2-A), and a second step of deprotecting either of the groups represented by Z of the compound represented by formula (2-A) obtained in the first step with an acid to obtain a compound represented by formula (3-A). wherein m represents an integer of 0 to 3, p represents 0 or 1, Z represents a methylsulfanylmethyl group etc., and R5, R6 and R7 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, a phenyl group or a benzyl group.
