Dehydrative alkylation of alcohols with triethyl methanetricarboxylate under Mitsunobu conditions
Triethyl methanetricarboxylate (TEMT) can be mildly alkylated by primary, benzylic and allylic alcohols under classical Mitsunobu conditions, in fair to good yields. The utility of TEMT in organic synthesis as a diethyl malonate surrogate is reported.
