ALKALINE HYDROLYSIS OF THE ESTERS OF HYDROXYALKYL PEROXIDES
The kinetics of the alkaline hydrolysis of the esters of α- and β-hydroxyalkyl peroxides in 70percent aqueous dioxane, which are hydrolyzed more slowly than the corresponding peresters but more quickly than the nonperoxide analogs, were studied. The effect of substituents on the alkaline hydrolysis of the esters of the α- and β-hydroxyalkyl peroxides is described satisfactorily by the Taft equation.

Thermodynamic Properties of Certain Hydroperoxides
The enthalpies of formation of t-butylperoxymethanol (CH3)3COOCH2OH (I), 1-t-butylperoxyethanol (CH3)COOCH2CH2OH (II), 1-t-pentylperoxyethanol C2H5(CH3)2COOCH2CH2OH (III), and 1-t-butylperoxypropane-2,3-diol (CH3)3COOCH2CHOHCH2OH (IV) have been determined by calorimetry. The vapour pressures of these substances have been measured by the effusion method in the temperature range 290-320 K.The energies of certain bonds and the enthalpies of formation of some of the biradicals have been calculated.
