- Selectivity in the photo-Fenton and photocatalytic hydroxylation of biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid and derivatives (viz. 4-phenylsalicylic acid and 5-phenylsalicylic acid)
-
The selectivity of hydroxylation of the distal rings of 4-phenylbenzoic acid, 4-phenylsalicylic acid, and 5-phenylsalicylic acid were determined using partial TiO2-mediated photocatalytic degradation and photo-Fenton conditions. This separation of the binding site from the phenyl group being hydroxylated allows a less-biased evaluation. The hydroxylation regiochemistry behaves as qualitatively expected for an electrophilic reaction, given the assumption that 4-carboxyphenyl is a slightly electron-withdrawing substituent. Selectivity for hydroxylation of the distal phenyl in 4- and 5-phenylsalicylic acid is reversed, due to the reversal of the electronic demand, while adsorption to the TiO2 surface is assumed to be analogous for the two structures. - Mimics of Pincer Ligands: An Accessible Phosphine-Free N-(Pyrimidin-2-yl)-1,2-azole-3-carboxamide Framework for Binuclear Pd(II) Complexes and High-Turnover Catalysis in Water
-
We report for the first time cyclic phosphine-free "head to tail"N,N,N pincer-like (pincer complexes mimicking) N-(pyrimidin-2-yl)-1,2-azole-3-carboxamide Pd(II) complexes with deprotonated amide groups as high-turnover catalysts (TON up to 106, TOF up to 1.2 × 107 h-1) for cross-coupling reactions on the background of up to quantitative yields under Green Chemistry conditions. The potency of the described catalyst family representatives was demonstrated in Suzuki-Miyaura, Mizoroki-Heck, and Sonogashira reactions on industrially practical examples. Corresponding ligands could be synthesized based on readily available reagents through simple chemical transformations. Within the complex structures, a highly unusual 1,3,5,7-tetraza-2,6-dipalladocane frame could be observed.

- A colored dendrimer as a new soluble support in organic synthesis. Part 1: Suzuki reaction
-
A new strategy using a colored dendrimer as visible soluble support for organic synthesis has been developed. The efficiency of this new system has been demonstrated by the use of DRHMPA9-CH2OH as the support in a Suzuki coupling reaction. Due to the visibility of the support, following of the reaction has been rendered easier and the purification time of the crude product has been considerably shortened.
