The bioink compositions have excellent printability and improved cell function, viability and engraftment. Furthermore, the bioink compositions can be supplemented through the additional of auxiliary proteins and other molecules such as growth factors including extracellular matrix components, Laminins, super affinity growth factors and morphogens. The bioink compositions can be used under physiological conditions related to 3D bioprinting parameters which are cytocompatible (e.g. temperature, printing pressure, nozzle size, bioink gelation process). The combination of a biogum-based biomaterial together with mammalian, plant, microbial or synthetically derived hydrogels exhibited improvement in printability, cell function and viability compared to tissues printed with bioink not containing biogums.

The invention discloses a method for producing hydroxyethyl methacrylate through an ester exchange method, and belongs to a chemical synthesis method. The method comprises the following steps: using methyl methacrylate and ethylene glycol as raw materials, using p-toluene sulfonic acid as a catalyst, using phenothiazine as a polymerization inhibitor, and performing a reaction under the condition of the temperature of 100-120 DEG C so as to prepare a target product. We report molecular interaction-driven self-assembly of supramolecularly engineered amphiphilic macromolecules (SEAM) containing a single supramolecular structure-directing unit (SSDU) consisting of an H-bonding group connected to a naphthalene diimide chromophore. Two such SEAMs, P1-50 and P2-50, having the identical chemical structure and hydrophobic/hydrophilic balance, exhibit distinct self-assembled structures (polymersome and cylindrical micelle, respectively) due to a difference in the H-bonding group (hydrazide or amide, respectively) of the single SSDU. When mixed together, P1-50 and P2-50 adopted self-sorted assembly. For either series of polymers, variation in the hydrophobic/hydrophilic balance does not alter the morphology reconfirming that self-assembly is primarily driven by directional molecular interaction which is capable of overruling the existing norms in packing parameter-dependent morphology control in an immiscibility-driven block copolymer assembly.

- Polymerized ionic liquids with enhanced static dielectric constants

Dielectric spectroscopy was used to determine the static dielectric constants (εs) of imidazolium acrylates and methacrylates and their ionomers, with different imidazolium pendant structures containing a combination of alkylene [(CH2)n, n = 5 or 10] and ethyleneoxy [(CH2CH2O)n, n = 4 or 7.3 (the average of a mixture of n = 1 to 20)] units as spacers between the backbone and the imidazolium cation. All monomers and polymers exhibited two dipolar relaxations, assigned to the usual segmental motion (α) associated with the glass transition and a lower frequency relaxation (α2), attributed to ions rearranging. From the analysis of the static dielectric constants using the Kirkwood g correlation factor, the dipoles in conventional (smaller) ionic liquids prefer antiparallel alignment (g ≈ 0.1), lowering εs values (≤30), because their polarizability volumes V p strongly overlap, whereas the dipoles in the larger ionic liquid monomers display g of order unity and 50 ≤ εs ≤ 110. A longer spacer leads to higher static dielectric constant, owing to a significant increase of the relaxation strength of the α2 process, which is directly reflected through an unanticipated increase of the static dielectric constant with ionic liquid molecular volume Vm. The glass transition temperature of polymerized imidazolium ionic liquids with various counterions is also shown to simply be a monotonically decreasing function of Vm. Furthermore, the ionomers consistently exhibit 1.5-2.3 times higher static dielectric constants (εs up to ~140 at room temperature) than the monomers from which they were synthesized, suggesting that polymerization encourages the observed synergistic dipole alignment (g > 1).

- Photo-sensitive PMMA microgels: Light-triggered swelling and degradation
-
Two classes (type A and type B) of novel photolabile divinyl functionalized crosslinkers based on o-nitrobenzyl derivatives were synthesized and investigated with regard to their photolytic performance upon UV irradiation. The systematic variation of the molecular structure resulted in different degradation rates depending on the irradiation conditions. Thus, the successive and independent cleavage is enabled by either adjusting the applied wavelengths or irradiation times. The respective molecules were used to build up photodegradable PMMA microgels by free radical copolymerization with MMA in a miniemulsion polymerization process. UV light-induced degradation of the swollen microgels was monitored by time dependent turbidity measurements and the resulting kinetics were found to correlate with the photolysis rates of the respective crosslinkers in solution. The irradiation wavelength-controlled selective partial cleavage of type B crosslinking points was achieved by UV irradiation with λ > 315 nm and resulted in particles with extensively increased volumes consisting of highly swollen networks. In addition, the irradiation time-controlled selective complete degradation of particles containing type B crosslinkers was accomplished. By using broadband UV light containing wavelengths of λ 315 nm, the successive complete particle disintegration of type B and type A microgels was observed. Hence, the specific performance of the synthesized microgels can be precisely triggered by means of the used UV light wavelengths, doses and intensities, thus representing a great potential as new light-responsive nanoscaled materials.

- Unique associative properties of copolymers of sodium acrylate and oligo(ethylene oxide) alkyl ether methacrylates in water
-
A series of random copolymers of sodium acrylate and oligo(ethylene oxide) alkyl ether methacrylates (CnEmMA) with different lengths of ethylene oxide (EO) and alkyl groups were prepared by free-radical copolymerization at varying copolymer compositions. The lengths of the EO units (the number of EO units) (m) and the numbers of carbon atoms in the alkyl groups (n) ranged fro'm 0 to 8.7 and 1 to 6, respectively. The copolymers with n = 1 and m = 1-8.7 exhibited a marked increase in solution viscosity at polymer concentrations (Cp) higher than their overlap concentrations (C*) when the CnEmMA contents (x) in the copolymers were in a certain limited range. Namely, there was an optimum x value that yielded the highest viscosity as a consequence of the competition between inter- and intrapolymer associations; the maximum viscosities occurred around x ≈ 25, 15, 10, 7, and 3 mol % for m = 1, 2, 3, 4.2, and 8.7, respectively. The maximum viscosity decreased significantly as n was increased on going from 1 to 6, and for the copolymers with n = 6, no increase in the viscosity occurred, a trend opposite to what is expected to interpolymer hydrophobic associations. When Cp > C*, steady-shear viscosity depended on the nature of countercations; the viscosities were found to be higher in the order Li + > Na+ ? NH4+, whereas reduced viscosity in dilute regime (Cp C*) was independent of the species of the cations. Rheological properties were found to be typical of transient networks formed through very weak interpolymer associations. Thus, the large increase in solution viscosity was explained by simultaneous interactions of countercations with EO units via coordination and with the polyanion via counterion condensation.

The present invention provides a novel production process for a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate, in which it is possible that: in a batch reaction system, the amount of the hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate (which is the objective product) as produced is kept nearly on the same level as conventional and further, at the same time, there is suppressed the side production of the alkylene oxide's diaddition product (dialkylene glycol mono(meth)acrylate) that lowers the purity of the product to thus give a bad influence upon its quality. The present invention production process comprises the step of carrying out a batch reaction between (meth)acrylic acid and an alkylene oxide in the presence of a catalyst in order to produce the hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate; with the production process being characterized by arranging that the reaction should be initiated in a state of a catalyst concentration of more than 1, wherein the catalyst concentration is defined as the amount of the catalyst as used relative to the integrated amount of the (meth)acrylic acid as supplied and is assumed to be 1 in terms of the amount of the entire catalyst to be used relative to the amount of the entire (meth)acrylic acid to be supplied.

A process for the synthesis and recovery of di(meth)acrylic acid esters at a high degree of purity. Di(meth)acrylic acid esters are produced by transesterfication of (meth)acrylic acid esters of C1to C4alcohols with 1,n-diols (where n≧3) in the presence of a zirconium catalyst that comprises a chelate of zirconium with a 1,3-dicarbonyl compound. These catalysts can be readily separated or removed from the reaction mixture by precipitation with phosphoric acid, thus providing a convenient and inexpensive method of producing a di(meth)acrylic acid ester with a reduced level of zirconium.

The present invention provides: a high-quality hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate of which the alkylene glycol di(meth)acrylate content and the acid component content are both low; and its novel production process. The hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate, which has a content, in terms of an alkylene glycol di(meth)acrylate as an impurity, of not more than 0.1 weight % and an acid component content of not more than 0.1 weight %, is obtained by a process comprising the step of carrying out a batch reaction between (meth)acrylic acid and an alkylene oxide in the presence of a catalyst in order to produce the hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate; with the process making an adjustment as to charging of both raw materials in such a manner that, for, of a time as needed for supplying both raw materials, a supplying time of not less than 40 % of a total supplying time when the raw materials as supplied have a temperature of not lower than 40 °C, the molar ratio of the integrated amount of the alkylene oxide to the integrated amount of the (meth)acrylic acid that have been added to a reactor by then can be more than 1.0.

It shows a superior adhesive strength on any of hard tissues in a living body, such as teeth and bones, metals, organic polymers and ceramics. It maintains a high adhesive strength for a long time even if it is exposed to moisture, or immersed in water. It is particularly effective for use in dentistry, though it is useful for a variety of other purposes, too.
