Traction fluid with improved low temperature properties
-
Page/Page column 8;, (2021/02/24)
A traction fluid comprising a blend of 2,3-dicyclohexyl-2,3-dimethylbutane (HAD) and 2,3-dicyclohexyl-2,3-dimethylbutane (iso-HAD) is found to have a lower viscosity at low temperatures when compared to a traction fluid having only HAD or only iso-HAD as a base fluid with no compromise to traction coefficient. The traction fluid may comprise additives. The traction fluid usually comprises HAD:isoHAD between about 8:1 to about 1:3. Further, the HAD:iso-HAD traction fluid blend is produced by a method of simultaneous co-production of hydrogenated HAD and hydrogenated iso-HAD from an alpha styrene dimer and an iso-HAD precursor with a yield of about 90% in a method that does not require a purification step.
SCALABLE SYNTHESIS OF HYDROGENATED ALPHA STYRENE DIMER
-
Paragraph 0029-0030, (2019/06/20)
A procedure for hydrogenation of alpha dimethyl styrene dimer that is scalable, economical, and safe is provided. These processes routinely provide greater than a 98% yield and require no purification step. The methods of producing hydrogenated alpha dimethyl styrene dimer comprising adding to a reactor under nitrogen a catalyst comprising Ru/C or Rh/C and an alpha dimethyl styrene dimer to form a catalyst and alpha dimethyl styrene dimer reaction mixture. The reaction mixture is then heated under pressure until hydrogenation of the alpha dimethyl styrene dimer is complete. To recover the hydrogenated alpha dimethyl styrene dimer, the reaction mixture is filtered through a celite bed under nitrogen.
LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION AND LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION FOR CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION
-
Paragraph 0076; 0077, (2013/05/22)
A lubricating oil composition of the invention contains longifolene represented by the following formula (1), that is, (1S,3aR,4S,8aS)-4,8,8-trimethyl-9-methylene-decahydro-1,4-methanoazulene.
LUBRICATING OIL

Page/Page column 6, (2009/07/03)
The present invention provides a lubricating oil comprising an alicyclic compound represented by a general formula (I): wherein n is an integer of 0 or 1; one of R1 and R2 represents —CH2OR4 (wherein R4 represents a carboxylic acid residue) while the other one represents alkyl, lower alkyl-substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkyl, aryl, or aralkyl; and R3 represents —CH2OR5 (wherein R5 represents a carboxylic residue) and the like. The lubricating oil of the present invention has an excellent traction coefficient, excellent heat resistance, or the like. For the lubricating oil of the present invention, the alicyclic compound represented by the general formula (I) can be directly used as it is, and other base oils such as ester oil, poly-α-olefin, mineral oil, or silicone oil may be included therein, if necessary.
Fluid for traction drive
-
, (2008/06/13)
The fluid for traction drive containing: (A) an alkane derivative having at least three cyclohexane rings in a molecule; and (B) an alkane derivative having a main chain of two or three carbon atoms, to which at least two methyl groups are bonded, and having two cyclohexane rings in a molecule each bonded to one of the terminal carbon atoms of the alkane, or a cyclopentane derivative having two cyclohexane rings in a molecule, and which has a kinematic viscosity of at least 3 centistokes at 100° C. The fluid has a high traction coefficient with stability over a wide range of temperature.
