- Technetium complexes with arylselenolato and aryltellurolato ligands

Reactions of (NBu4)[TcOCl4] or [TcCl3(PPh3)2(CH3CN)] with in situ-prepared lithium arylselenolates and -tellurolates give (NBu4)[TcVO(ArE)4] (E = Se, Te; Ar = phenyl) and [TcIII(ArE)3(PPh3)(CH3CN)] (E = Se, Te; Ar = phenyl, 2,6-Me2phenyl, mesityl) complexes, respectively. The products contain square-pyramidal (TcV compounds) and trigonal bipyramidal (TcIII complexes) coordinated technetium atoms. Density functional theory calculations indicate that the Tc-chalcogen bonds in the TcIII compounds have a greater bond order than those in the TcV compounds.

The first total synthesis of (±)-floribundane B is reported. Johnson-Claisen rearrangement of a Morita-Baylis-Hillman adduct assembled all of the stereochemical features of this secoiridoid. The formal synthesis of (±)-oleocanthal and the synthesis of a chemical constituent of olive press juice is also reported.

Synthesis and Coordination Ability of Selenoalkynes R-Se-CC-R' Several synthetic methods for the preparation of selenoalkynes R-Se-CC-R'(1) are discussed. 1 reacts with octacarbonyl dicobalt to yield the η2-?-side-on coordinated alkyne complexes R-Se2-CC-R')Co2(CO)6> (8) which contain a sterically hindered carbon-cobalt tetrahedrane cluster unit.The identity of compounds 1 and 8 is documented by analytical and spectroscopic (IR, MS, 1H-, 77Se-, and 13C-NMR) data as well as by X-ray analysis of C6H5-Se2-CC-C6H5)Co2(CO)6> (8a).
