- New bioactive triaryl triglyceride esters: Synthesis, characterization and biological activities

Four new bioactive aryl triester derivatives of glycerol and benzoic acids were synthesized. The synthetic compounds were studied for their antimicrobial and urease inhibition activities. Esterification was carried out by using carbonyldiimidazole to enhance the acyl elimination addition reaction with benzoic acid derivatives. The structure of triglycerides were studied by EI-MS,1H,13C-NMR, FT-IR and elemental analysis. All synthetic compounds showed urease inhibition activity with highest value of IC50 value 22.4 ± 0.45 μM which is nearest to standard thiourea IC50 value (21.6 ± 0.12 μM). Except compound (3d), all other compounds exhibited antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Bacillus pumilus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albican.

The invention discloses a production method of glycerin tribenzoate. The production method comprises the following steps: carrying out heating reflux for water distribution on glycerol and benzoic acid under the existence of an alkaline substance and a dehydrating agent, carrying out a dehydration esterification reaction, carrying out reaction liquid post-treatment after the reaction is finished, to prepare the glycerin tribenzoate. A ratio of the amount of substance of the glycerol to the benzoic acid is 1: (3.0-3.3); and the alkaline substance is carbonate, bicarbonate, hydroxide or benzoate of alkali metals or alkaline-earth metals. In the invention, a dehydration esterification reaction is carried out under the existence of alkaline, so that side reactions such as glycerol polymerization and glycerol dehydration to generate acraldehyde and the like are greatly inhibited, production of corresponding by-products is reduced, and the yield of the principal product and the content of the product are improved. The operation is simple, the process stability is high, the corrosion and material requirements for equipment are greatly reduced, and meanwhile, the product is low and stable in chromaticity, being suitable for industrial production.

- Evaluation of glycerol profiles in sugarcane spirits (cacha?as)

A new method for glycerol quantification in sugarcane spirits (cacha?as) is proposed, based on sample derivatization using benzoyl chloride followed by solid-phase extraction and high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection analysis. The limits of detection and quantification for glycerol analysis are 0.25 mg L -1 and 0.74 mg L-1, respectively. The accuracy is of 97.5percent, the precision 93.5percent and the linearity r2 = 0.998 in the range of 0.56 mg L-1 to 112.0 mg L-1of glycerol. Experiments with forty eight samples of aged and non-aged cacha?as and seven alcoholic extracts of wood showed that the aging process contributes to increase the glycerol concentration. The average concentration of glycerol in aged cacha?as were about 10-fold higher than in non-aged cacha?as.
