- Direct synthesis of 5- and 6-substituted 2-aminopyrimidines as potential non-natural nucleobase analogues
-
A series of 2-aminopyrimidine derivatives, substituted at 5- and 6-positions, were synthesized. The reaction was carried out in a single step by treatment of the corresponding β-ketoester or β-aldehydoester with guanidine hydrochloride in the presence of K2CO3, in a microwave-assisted method without the requirement of solvent. A unique 1:1 co-crystal structure was obtained which shows that a 6-phenyl-2- aminopyrimidinone forms a strong nucleobase-pair with cytosine, involving three hydrogen bonds. The base-pair was found to be as strong as that of natural guanine:cytosine (G:C), signifying the potential application of the synthesized derivatives. Additionally, we also report a second co-crystal involving 5-isopropyl-6-methyl-2-aminopyrimidinone and cytosine in a 1:1 ratio, which also shows strong base-pairing properties. the Partner Organisations 2014.

- Fluorinated supramolecular polymers
-
The present invention relates to a fluorinated supramolecular polymer containing at least 5% by weight of covalently bonded fluorine atoms, based on the total weight of the fluorinated supramolecular polymer, said fluorinated supramolecular polymer comprising a fluorinated polymer chain and a (self-)complementary unit capable of forming at least three hydrogen bonds, said (self-)complementary unit being covalently bonded to said fluorinated polymer chain. The present invention also relates fluorinated supramolecular material comprising (a) a fluorinated supramolecular polymer and (c) a non-fluorinated polymer and/or (d) a fluorinated compound, the non-fluorinated polymer being a polymer containing less than 5% by weight of covalently bonded fluorine atoms, based on the total weight of the non-fluorinated polymer, and the fluorinated compound being either a low molecular weight fluorinated compound comprising at least one fluorine atom and having a molecular weight of 34.(molecular weight of CH3F) to 600 atomic mass units (amu), or a fluoropolymer containing at least 5% by weight of covalently bonded fluorine atoms, based on the total weight of the fluoropolymer and having a Mn from about 600 to about 5000.
