- Access to pyrrolo[2,1-: A] isoindolediones from oxime acetates and ninhydrin via Cu(i)-mediated domino annulations
-
A copper-mediated domino condensation reaction of readily accessible oxime acetates with ninhydrin is reported to afford pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoindolediones via new C-C & C-N bond formations. A wide range of oxime acetates were shown to generally participate in the reaction to produce the condensed products in excellent yields. The necessary control experiments were performed and the mechanism is proposed to involve sequentially the formation of iminium radical via Cu-mediated N-O bond cleavage of oxime acetates, addition of the radical to ninhydrin and rearrangement via ring expansion.

- Copper(0)/PPh3-Mediated Bisheteroannulations of o-Nitroalkynes with Methylketoximes Accessing Pyrazo-Fused Pseudoindoxyls
-
A copper(0)/PPh3-mediated cascade bisheteroannulation reaction of o-nitroalkynes with methylketoximes has been developed that provides viable access to a diverse range of pyrazo-fused pseudoindoxyl compounds. Synthetically useful functional groups including sensitive C-I bonds are compatible with this system. Mechanistic studies suggest a reaction cascade involving sequential PPh3-mediated deoxygenative cycloisomerization and copper-catalyzed [3 + 2] pyrazo-annulation.

- SO2F2-Activated Efficient Beckmann Rearrangement of Ketoximes for Accessing Amides and Lactams
-
A novel, mild and practical protocol for the efficient activation of the Beckmann rearrangement utilizing the readily available and economical sulfuryl fluoride (SO2F2 gas) has been developed. The substrate scope of the operationally simple methodology has been demonstrated by 37 examples with good to nearly quantitative isolated yields (over 90 % yield in most cases) in a short time, including B(OH)2, COOH, NH2, and OH substituted substrates. A tentative mechanism was proposed involving formation and elimination of key intermediate, sulfonyl ester.

- Fe(NO3)3·9H2O-catalyzed aerobic oxidative deoximation of ketoximes and aldoximes under mild conditions
-
A mild, simple process for the effective aerobic oxidative deoximation of a wide range of ketoximes and aldoximes has been developed that utilizes Fe(NO3)3·9H2O as the single catalyst and molecular oxygen as the green oxidant. The environmentally benign protocol provides moderate to excellent yield and broad functional groups tolerance and is a valuable synthetic method for practical applications. According the relevant verification experiment, a plausible mechanism has been proposed.

- Catalyst free synthesis of mono- and disubstituted pyrimidines from O-acyl oximes
-
Transition-metal or iodine catalyzed transformations of O-acyl oximes to various N-heterocycles are well established. Herein, we report a catalyst free, oxime carboxylate based, three-component condensation method to access mono- and disubstituted pyrimidines. A broad range of substituted pyrimidines were prepared in moderate to excellent yields. Control experiments reveal that in situ generated formamidine is the key intermediate.

- Easy Access to 1-Amino and 1-Carbon Substituted Isoquinolines via Cobalt-Catalyzed C - H/N - O Bond Activation
-
A green atom-economical method for the synthesis of highly functionalized 1-amino and 1-carbon substituted isoquinolines from the reaction of N′-hydroxybenzimidamides and aryl ketoximes, respectively, with alkynes via pentamethylcyclopentadienylcobalt(III)-catalyzed C - H/N - O bond activation is described. The external oxidant-free annulation reaction uses the =NOH moiety in N′-hydroxybenzimidamides or N-aromatic ketone oximes as the directing group and internal oxidant. This first row transition metal-catalyzed annulation serves as an efficient alternative for the synthesis of isoquinolines, as water is the only by-product and expensive noble metals such as rhodium(III), iridium(III), palladium(II), and ruthenium(II) are not required. The reaction proceeds via C - H activation, alkyne insertion, reductive elimination, and N - O activation.

- Synthesis of Air- and Moisture-Stable, Storable Chiral Oxorhenium Complexes and Their Application as Catalysts for the Enantioselective Imine Reduction
-
Air-/moisture-stable, crystalline, and storable chiral salicyloxazoline based oxorhenium(V) complexes have been synthesized and their catalytic application for the asymmetric reduction of ketimines using hydrosilane as hydride source is disclosed. A broad substrate scope, high yields, and excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99 %) are attained. Furthermore, the syntheses of enantiopure α-amino esters, γ- and δ-lactams, and isoindolinones have also been carried out using this methodology. Finally, the method has been applied to synthetic targets of pharmaceutical relevance, such as R-(+)-salsolidine and R-(+)-crispine A.

- An efficient one-pot synthesis of oxime ethers from alcohols using triphenylphosphine/carbon tetrachloride
-
A convenient and efficient one-pot O-alkylation of oximes from alcohols using triphenylphosphine in carbon tetrachloride is described. In this method, treatment of alcohols with a mixture of triphenylphosphine, carbon tetrachloride, oxime, and DBU in the presence of catalytic amounts of tetrabutylammonium iodide in refluxing acetonitrile regioselectively furnishes the corresponding O-alkyl ethers in good yields. This methodology is highly efficient O-alkylation of oximes with various structurally diverse alcohols. Semiempirical quantum-mechanic calculations (AM1) for unsymmetrical oxime ethers, indicated a lower heat of formation for Z-isomers. Georg Thieme Verlag Stuttgart - New York.

- Enantioselective Strecker reaction of phosphinoyl ketoimines catalyzed by in situ prepared chiral N,N′-dioxides
-
The enantioselective Strecker reaction of N-diphenylphosphinoyl ketoimines has been achieved by use of in situ prepared chiral N,N′-dioxide catalyst from L-piperidinamide 3f and m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid (m-CPBA). Excellent yields (up to 99%) and high enantioselectivities (up to 92% ee) were obtained. In particular, in situ prepared catalyst with readily available chiral material made the procedure more convenient. Moreover, the L-piperidinamide 3f-derived N,N′-dioxide 9 could be recycled and reused at least five times without any loss of either catalytic activity or enantioselectivity.
