It exhibits immunostimulatory properties and has been used as a pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic ingredient. Propagermanium, the first organogermanium compound marketed as a pharmaceutical, is indicated for the oral treatment of chronic hepatitis B and has been reported to enhance the production of interferon α/β in virus-infected mice and human peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
