Any of various drugs used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Among these are certain gold salts, e.g., disodium aurothiomalate and gold sodium thiosulfate. Penicillamine is also reported to be effective. Cortisone is no longer widely used because of deleterious side effects.
