Precipitation of water vapor in the form of colloidal droplets on the surface of a varnish or lacquer film, caused by lowering of the temperature immediately above the coated surface due to solvent evaporation. This results in unsightly graying of the dried film and can be avoided by use of a less-volatile solvent.
