Reddish-yellow, mobile liquid. Fp −66C, decomposes with evolution of chlorine at 10C. Soluble in water, carbon disulfide, ether. Readily hydrolyzes. Reacts with ammonia to form bromamines.
Hazard:
Irritant. Oxidizing agent.
Use:
Industrial disinfectant, especially for wastewaters.
