Properties:

A rubbery material, very difficult to dry. Almost insoluble without small quantities of organic stabilizers.

Derivation:

By saponifying naphthenic acids and treating the sodium naphthenate formed with a suitable cerium salt. The commercial product is a mixture of rare-earth soaps.
