(impression resin; low-pressure resin). A synthetic thermosetting resin characterized by cure at relatively low pressure. The usual components are an unsaturated, high molecular weight monomer, such as an allyl ester, or a mixture of styrene or other vinyl monomer with an unsaturated polyester or alkyd. Cure requires heat and a catalyst, as well as some pressure. The curing does not result in water formation as with phenol-formaldehyde resins.
