A vegetable oil obtained from the seeds of the crambe, a plant related to mustard and rape. Growth and processing techniques have been studied by the Agricultural Research Service of USDA. The plant can be grown on marginal and strip-mined land. Its high content of erucic acid and the high protein content of its meal make it economically attractive. The oil itself is useful as an industrial lubricant, especially for molds for continuous steel casting.
