(1933– ). An American who won the Nobel Prize for chemistry along with Sir Harold W. Kroto and Richard E. Smalley in 1996, the 100th anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death. The trio won for the discovery of the C60 compound called buckminsterfullerene.
