The action of assistants differs with the classes of dyes, but in most cases they aid in level deposition of the dye by either delaying its absorption, increasing its solubility, or assisting the dye solution to penetrate the material. Examples: sodium sulfate decahydrate, pine oils, alkylaryl sulfonates.
