    Detailed information:
    A normal aliphatic amine derived from fats and oils. May be saturated or unsaturated, and primary, secondary, or tertiary, but the alkyl groups are straight chain and have an even number of carbons in each. The length varies from 8 to 22 carbon atoms.
    Derivation:
    Fatty acids are treated with ammonia and heated to form fatty acid amides which are converted to nitriles and reduced to the amine.
     
    Use:
    Organic bases, soaps, plasticizers, tire cords, fabric softeners, water-resistant asphalt, hair conditioners, cosmetics, medicinals.
