Flash Point

    Name:
    Flash Point
    Detailed information:
The temperature at which a liquid or volatile solid gives off vapor sufficient to form an ignitable mixture with the air near the surface of the liquid or within the test vessel (NFPA). For the purposes of the official shipping regulations, the flash point is determined by the Tagliabue open cup method (ASTM D1310–63), usually abbreviated TOC. (IATA also permits the Abel or Abel-Pensky closed cup tester.) Other methods used, generally for the higher flash points, are the Tag closed cup (Tagliabue closed cup, TCC) and Cleveland open cup (COC). The open cup method more nearly approximates actual conditions.See Flammable Material.
