Gibberellin

    Name:
    Gibberellin
    Detailed information:
A group of plant-growth regulators (hormones), isolated in 1938 and widely distributed in flowering plants that promotes elongation of shoots and coleoptiles. They differ from auxins in not stimulating the growth of roots and in various other properties. The presence of auxin appears to be necessary for gibberellins to function. All gibberellins have closely related structures, being weak acids with a ring system containing double bonds and eight asymmetric carbons.

See Gibberellic Acid; Plant Growth Regulator.
