Bast fibers, 4–10 ft long, obtained from the stems of several species of Corchorus, especially C. capularis. Contains a higher proportion of lignin and less cellulose than any other commercial vegetable fiber and has relatively poor strength and durability. The fibers are soft and lustrous but lose strength when wet. Combustible. Not self-extinguishing.
Hazard:
Flammable in form of dust, may ignite spontaneously when wet.
