| Light, bulky, white powder. Bulk d approximately 4 lb/ft3, d 3.0, decomposes 350C, refr index about 1.52. Soluble in acids; very slightly soluble in water; insoluble in alcohol. Noncombustible. |

| (1) Mined as natural material; (2) carbonation of magnesium oxide or Mg(OH)2 with CO2; (3) reaction of a soluble magnesium salt solution with sodium carbonate or bicarbonate. |
