A manufactured fiber in which the fiber-forming substance is any long-chain synthetic polymer composed of less than 85% but at least 35% by weight of acrylonitrile units, CH2CH(CN) (Federal Trade Commission). Other chemicals, such as vinyl chloride, are incorporated as modifiers. Characterized by moderate tenacity, low water absorption, and resistance to combustion; self-extinguishing.
Use:
Deep pile and fleece fabrics, industrial filters, carpets, underwear, blends with other fibers.
