A compound that resists passage of electricity (nonconductor) both in liquid form and in solution. Included in this classification are most organic compounds, with the exception of acids and amides, and such inorganic compounds as nonmetal halides. Nonelectrolytes are covalently bonded; some inorganic compounds having covalent bonds form electrolytic solutions in aqueous solution.See Electrolyte.
