    (1901–1994). An American chemist and physicist who won the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1954. By using X-ray diffraction analysis he determined the crystal structure of molecules. He made significant progress in the study of chemical bonds and discovered the atomic structure of many proteins including hemoglobin. He is known to the masses for his advocacy of vitamin C. Pauling was also a recipient of the Nobel peace prize in 1962.
