Colorless or slightly yellowish crystals. D 2.86, mp 18.5C, sublimes at 61.8C, bp 80C. Decomposed by water or alcohol evolving highly toxic phosphine.
Derivation:
Hydrolysis of phosphorus tetraiodide and white phosphorus.
Hazard:
Rapid heating can cause detonation. Toxic by ingestion.
