    Tyndall Effect

A colloidal phenomenon in which particles too small to be resolved in an optical microscope suspended in a gas or liquid reveal their presence by scattering a beam of light as it passes through the suspension, the extent of reflection being dependent on the position of the irregularly shaped particles relative to the incident light.
